Ovonic Hydrogen Systems - Portable Canisters
Ovonic Hydrogen Systems is proud to be the first and only manufacturer of metal hydride storage systems to receive US competent authority approval for transport of charged canisters. This authorization allows ready-to-use hydrogen filled canisters to be shipped to and transported by you and your customers using all means recognized in the hazardous materials regulations (including cargo aircraft). Appropriate DOT or IATA packaging / labeling requirements must be followed and a copy of DOT authorization CA2008050020 must accompany the shipment.
All Ovonic Solid Hydrogen Storage canisters have been designed to comply with rigorous standards and have undergone extensive testing for product safety. Canisters feature DOT 3AL cylinders, manual shutoff valves, and pressure relief devices certified to CGA S-1.1 for either CG-9 or CG-12 type devices.
Four standard canister models are currently available. Canisters can be supplied with either standard high-capacity storage alloy (North America only) or high-rate international version "air-shippable" alloy. This latter option allows international transport of canisters based on the hazard class of the storage alloy contained since Ovonic portable canisters are built to US standards and are not ISO compliant at this time. Custom storage alloys are also available.

Canister Accessories
All canister valve assemblies feature a manual shut-off and female 1/8" NPT interface to which a variety of standard quick-connect couplings can be attached. We are pleased to offer quick-connect couplings specifically designed for use on our canisters by Staubli Corporation. Both the male plug and female socket are rated to 1000psi both coupled and decoupled and are normally closed when decoupled. The female socket features a simple push-button release mechanism and both components have a male 1/8" NPT threaded back-end for ease of connection to other equipment.
